Here are the pictures of more sea trials for the Skerry launched at the end of March, together with my first Chester Yawl, built in July last year. A great day with a lot of sunshine and a little breeze at the mouth of the Tieux river on the north shore of Brittany.

The pictrues are taken from the Reder Noz, my brother Gilles's boat. It's a good thing that the pennant at the top end of the sprit is floating because it seems that there is no wind at all. But the yawl is fast under oar and keeps up easily with the Skerry in such light air.   The fact that these extremely light boats generate no wake make it almost impossible to evaluate their movement on a static picture. Gwendal lets the Skerry heel under the light breeze to evaluate her secondary stability. That's me in the yawl.

Here the Skerry manages to raise a tiny wake... Please note that if we are not wearing PFDs on any of these pictures, we do indeed have one aboard each boat. The clemency of the weather excuses this, but we should wear them...

Now a bit of running with the board up.

The two hulls are exactly of the same overall length, but the Skerry is a foot wider at the beam to afford a bit more hull stability. I have exchanged the Skerry for the yawl.

The pure happiness of messing around with tiny boats in the perfect setting...   The Trieux river is the ideal place to use the yawl. It is navigable for almost 10 miles between Pontrieux and Loguivy.

That's it! In a few moments we'll take is all apart and store it back until the next time!
