It was about time to complete more in depth trials of the Jimmy Skiff. We seize the opportunity of a sunny saturday afternoon for phase 1: rowing, and sailing is planned within two weeks if all goes well. |
Alice, Susan and Matthieu boldly volunteered to try the Jimmy Skiff's qualities under oar. |
We launch at Choisy-au-Bac and row upriver towards the next lock. We cross training sculls from the local rowing club Aviron Compiègnois, a bit disconcerted to meet wood on the water.... |

This view shows off the delicacy of the Jimmy Skiff's hull. Its flaring sides provide for greater stability as load is increased. |
After Susan, it's Alice's turn to grab the "dead wood". Three adults on board are far from overloading the Jimmy Skiff. The forefoot barely skims the surface... |

... as well as the bottom of the transom. |

And then Matthieu is up for rowing. The spacing of the thwarts and seats provides enough room for all to enjoy an uncramped ride. |
Here we are back under the bridge at Choisy to switch boats. |

Our worthy test riders continue their work with the Skerry. |

And my wife and I take their stride on the Jimmy Skiff. |
I use the forward rowing station to obtain the optimal fore and aft pitch. Indeed, the transom is fully out of the water and doesn't "drag". |
I must admit that though I like the Jimmy Skiff a lot, it doesn't match the fluidity of the Skerry's lines... |

Its fine hull glides effortlessly on the water. |

Our trialists make for shore after checking that both small boats are indeed very fit under oar! |
That's it for a fine boating afternoon. Time to return the boats to the shop... |
