That is the whole purpose of this boat: to offer everybody the opportunity to take part into a boatbuilding project which, though quick and easy, will yield a "real" boat, which will be usable on the water for real!Length: 5.49 m, beam: 1.12 m, weight: 45 kg |

John C. Harris, drew upon the experience accumulated designing over 60 boats for Chesapeake Light Craft to create the Peace Canoe. The goal was to create a boat which would be easy to build and fun to use. The Peace Canoe kit is intended for the first time boatbuilder, or the builder who can't or doesn't want to invest one hundred hours or so in a classical "stitch and glue" boat kit. Initially, the boat was called War Canoe, but this name was changed twice. The first time was when the Harward Business School bought 15 kits of the boat for a team building project intended to its staff and faculty, and they requested the name to become "Harvard 18". Then the final name was selected when the boat was selected by Woodenboat magazine in their project to promote wooden boatbuilding, in the spring of 2007. Woodenboat liked the simplicity of the War Canoe, but they found it would be more fitting to name it Peace Canoe. May they be heard... According to John C. Harris, building the Peace Canoe is intended to be a group project, in which everybody can take a part, whatever the age and the woodworking ability. There is neither technical challenge, nor delicate step. For instance, children can take care of painting the boat! Despite the speed and ease of the building process, the finished product is definitely not a useless or disappointing "thing" The Peace Canoe will make its builders proud of their work with its lovely sheer line and its 280 kg payload allows it to take a family or a group for a nice outing on reasonably protected waters. The building manual for the Peace Canoe is made for the kit builders as well as the scratch builders. |
