Several thousand units of both models of the Mill Creek™ have been buit since their introduction in 1997. This may appear surprising for a "dumb kayak", but there are reasons for this: they look nice, they are easy to build and though they are much more stable than most kayaks on the market, the Mill Creeks™ are fast and nimble. The Mill Creek™ was designed as a wider, shorter, and more stable alternative to the typical sea kayak. It offers the stability sought by nature photographers, fly fishermen, and birders. The most versatile paddling designs in our lineup, the Mill Creeks™ are true high-performance boats. That is, if high performance is defined as comfort, good handling, rewarding speed, stability, and classic good looks. Originally drawn as stable and compact complements to our more traditional sea kayaks, the Mill Creeks™ have found fans among paddlers of all skill levels because they offer so much boat in such a light and easy-to-manage package.

New: the Mill Creek 16.5 Hybrid : a strip-planked deck on a stitch and glue plywood hull. See below.

Pour votre sécurité, portez toujours un gilet de sauvetage agréé.
Mahogany trim on cockpits and rails, cambered decks, and contoured slatted seats add grace notes, while the fiberglassed 6mm bottom panel will absorb years of groundings in shoal water.
The Mill Creek 13™ echoes the feel of 1920's "double paddle" canoes. Combining the stability and comfortable seating of a canoe with the light weight and decked-in security of a kayak, the Mill Creek 13 is perfect for photography, fly fishing, birding, or just relaxed paddling. Like all the Mill Creeks, the 13 is surprisingly fast thanks to her efficient 5-panel multichine hull and feather-light 40lb weight. The cockpit is 54" long, so entry and egress are easy for everyone.
The Mill Creek 16.5™ is enormously popular because it can be used in so many ways. Not only can you paddle it as a single or a double, but you can sail it, add a sliding-seat rowing unit, or even adapt an electric outboard. The Mill Creek 16.5's™ stability will reassure the most nervous paddlers, while the low freeboard and light weight yield better speed and handling in wind than the average canoe. There's enough capacity for camping gear (with optional deck hatches), and the boat can be easily trimmed by sliding the seats fore and aft on their mounts.

Auxiliary sailing rigs have been a feature of double paddle canoes since the 19th century. While they aren't meant to keep up with purpose-built sailboats, SailRig-equipped Mill Creeks™ are great fun in calm winds and warm, protected waters. You can sail these boats much faster than you can paddle, especially off the wind.
The traditional balanced-lug sail provides a lower center of effort along with much better upwind ability than an equivalent triangular sail, and there's a reef point in case you get caught out in a rising wind. The pivoting leeboard utilizes a simple, handsome clamp-on thwart; the asymmetry of the single leeboard is unnoticeable under sail and the entire unit is easily stowed in the hatch. Requires installation of the Double Rudder Kit.
The Mill Creek Hybrid’s hull is identical to the standard Mill Creek’s, with computer-cut BS 1088 Okoume panels that go together very quickly. Computer-cut molds are set into the hull with temporary hot glue. These molds shape and support the deck during construction.
With the kit we include a mixture of dark and medium color western red cedar strips, plus white cedar strips for light accents. The strips are milled with a “bead and cove” joint so that one slides into the next for perfect joinery.
While we offer suggested patterns, each builder can develop their own unique strip deck design as they assemble their kit. Run riot with your creativity! Almost anything is possible. Parquet decks, anyone?
