New Dory!

A 17-foot lapstrake dory kit using the Lapstitch™ construction technique will soon be available to build. As you can see below, the kit is currently being fine tuned for production. Sea trials are coming up (as soon as water is liquid again!)

The very open sections of the dory recall strongly the Skerry's hull, with on more strake per side. The small sailplan of the dory. The transom is stitched on. And here is the hull fully stitched. It's clear that a few more stitches must come onto the stem.

Gluing starts with the joint between the sole and the garboards. A nice fat joint fills the stem. Getting ready to fiberglass the inside of the hull. The inside of the hull is fiberglassed. Somebody wants to make the deadline: lots of hands on deck...

The kit for this lovely 17-foot dory is currently in final tuning at CLC. The kit will soon be available for purchase (don't hold your breath, it won't happen before May), with four strakes per side, assembled according to the patented Lapstitch technique (stitch and glue with rabbeted planks) which makes the construction process uniquely easy. The hull, very open for a dory, recalls very much the Skerry's, which is a very good omen regarding its dynamic qualities.

The new dory will be equipped with three rowing stations, for single rowing (middle), double (extremities) and to allow rowing with one or several passengers (or a lawn mower, or even a concrete mixer) while maintaining the optimal trim. A "sailing" kit will optionally change the dory into an able sailer in order to expand considerably its cruising range.

For your safety, always wear approved personal flottation devices.
